What are speed cameras? There are two methods by which a roadside photo speed trap gets your license plate. The first method (See bottom picture, A) is a "Rear Photo Speed Trap", which no radar detector can detect in time to alert you.

Sometimes they take a picture of the front of your vehicle, called a "Front Photo Speed Trap". See bottom image, B.
