Beltronics GX65, Photo Radar

Product Tests

• Radar Detector Test - During our road testing of the Beltronics GX65 radar detector, we logged a typical 9+ mile distance detection of Ka radar. This is quite good radar sensitivity. False alerts can be reduced significantly by marking false radar locations. The Bel GX65 uses a GPS antenna, which gives you speed camera detector alerts as well as memory to remember where the false radar locations are.

The SWS detector alerts (special K band safety alerts) when turned on and selected, will alert you to road hazards and construction; if the SWS transmitter technology is used by road crews and ambulances.

We noted many POP3 alerts, but this is due to having to detect a very fast, (67millisecond) POP3, burst radar pulse, and having very little time to determine if it is a real radar signal or a false laser signal. The very high radar detection sensitivity of the Bel GX65 causes the POP3 false alerts to increase. We recommend POP3 to be turned off and Highway X to be turned off. This permits fewer false noise alerts and allows the superb detection sensitivity to be used for your protection.

Ku radar was tested in Taiwan, Belgium and Hungary where they use Ku, but we found the Beltronics GX65 radar detector Ku detection sensitivity was less than average.

Speed Camera Detector – The GPS capabilities of the Beltronics GX65 is outstanding and detects red light cameras alongside the highway and at street intersections, where installed, in the USA and Canada. Combining Photo alerts with superb radar detection and reduced false alerts makes the Bel GX65 a superb radar detector

• Laser Jammer Test – During our test, we encountered a few laser alerts from police. Since the Beltronics GX65 radar detector detects laser from the windshield, and laser is aimed at the license plate and headlights, the Beltronics GX65 radar detector should be supplemented with a laser jammer for more complete laser protection.
