Product Tests

• Radar - During our road testing of the Escort Redline radar detector, we logged a typical 9+ mile distance detection of Ka radar. This is extremely good radar detection. You can reduce false alerts by turning X band off. If you are driving highway and cross country, K and Ka radar is used. Some smaoll towns in the USA still use X band, but it is rare on the interstates. You can reduce false alerts further by turning POP3 Radar off, which is a Ka band radar, but not used very much. We noted some POP3 alerts, and the Escort Redline is very good at alerting you to a real POP3 signal, which is a very short radar pulse of less than 1/10th of a second in length (67milliseconds). Many radar detectors today can detect fast radar pulses, but can not tell if the fast signal is simply a false alert or a real POP3 radar burst. The Passport 9500i can detect POP3 better than most radar detectors. The SWS detector alerts (special K band safety alerts) when turned on and selected, will alert you to road hazards and construction; if the SWS transmitter technology is used by road crews and ambulances.
• Laser - Detecing laser guns with a radar detector is not usefule to you as a driver. Think about what a laser beam is. Laser is a straight, narrow, beam of light - pointing at your vehicle. If you detect the laser, it has already detected your speed. Unless you are using a laser jammer, the laser beam will detect your speed. We recommend using the Shifter ZR4 or the Blinder M47 laser jammer by Blinder X-Treme. We offer both laser jammers, and the Blinder is the better performer.
